The project comprised of extensive refurbishment to Ireland’s most prestigious hotel and the construction of a 7 storey 100 bedroom wing over two basement levels. This increased the overall size from 6,000 m2 to 22,300 m2 and increased the total number of bedrooms to 265. . The existing ballroom was demolished and a new ballroom built over a newly formed basement level. The Ballroom can now cater for 380 guests seated and has state of the art audio visual and lighting systems. The remodeling works have greatly enhanced and expanded the functional elements of the hotel and include refurbishment of the existing public areas including restaurants, bars, health spa and conference facilities. The hotel now blends classical elegance with the latest 5-star flourishes and was reopened in 2007 under the Marriott Brand as a Renaissance Hotel.
The project demanded a high degree of conservation expertise and McNamara Construction worked closely with the Design Team and Conservation and Structural specialists to ensure the national and historic significance of the building fabric was retained and enhanced. The Horseshoe Bar was faithfully restored to its original design and the No. 27 Bar returned to its original layout incorporating the old restaurant area. The first floor heritage rooms, including the historic Constitution Room, have been refurbished with fabric lined walls, to provide striking meeting and conference facilities and the Main Entrance Stairs have the central lift removed to open the area up and provide a striking entrance into the hotel. . |
