McNamara Project wins Best Sustainable Development at the 2010 RIAI (Royal Institute of Architecture) Awards
The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) announced this week the winners for this years Irish Architectural Awards. Among them is the Michael McNamara & Co Mixed Use Development project at St. Patrick’s Place, Cork which won the overall award for Best Sustainable Development.
John Graby, Director, RIAI, said “Through its siting, mixed use and considered use of appropriate technologies, this inner city building invigorates a difficult site and seamlessly integrates all aspects of sustainability on a wider socio- economic scale. From re-use of an existing building, to the sourcing of local materials and the impact on the local community it serves as a model of well mannered urban redevelopment with solid environmental concerns integrated into the design”
St. Patricks Place Development is located to the north side of Cork city, Ireland. Construction of this sustainable mixed use development, which was designed and constructed in harmony with the surrounding heritage, was completed on time and on budget. This project provides high specification commercial, retail, office and living accommodation, it includes model solutions in sustainability, and is a welcome addition to this historic part of Cork city.
The development offers a step change in the quality of city living and working environment to this part of Cork city, and its low energy design features future-proofs the design for years to come.
