Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore wins Best Health Building RIAI Awards 2009
Best Health Building: Midland Regional Hospital at Tullamore- Construction of this state of the art General Hospital which provides a major landmark in public health services. This hospital is a 4 storey hospital building constructed on a green field site adjacent to the existing operational hospital which included maintenance buildings and associated roadways, car parking and site services. This project included new laboratories and a pharmacy for training.
The jury where impressed by the architects response to an extremely demanding programme where rigorous space planning and the establishment of vital functional relationships are of the essence. Without compromising these demands, a building of appropriate spatial drama has emerged. The architecture achieves an informal non-institutional image and feel; a onus for this building type.
